Malgorzata Darlak transitioned into the appraisal profession after spending fifteen years working at an engineering company.
“I decided to switch to a career offering more flexible hours, greater interaction with people, and a different route for property inspections each day, something that seemed more interesting to me.”
Malgorzata became a Certified Residential Appraiser in April 2015.
The balance between independence and community impact is what she finds most rewarding about the profession.
“The most rewarding part of being an appraiser is the combination of independence and community impact, setting my own schedule for field inspections and independent research from the home office, while playing a trusted role in helping people buy a home or secure financing.”
Malgorzata is committed to accommodating the needs of her clients whenever possible.
“I was going above and beyond by accommodating after hours and weekend appointments for homeowners’ convenience.”
Professionalism plays an important role in how she approaches her work as an appraiser.
“Being professional in a performance appraisal job means being objective, avoiding personal biases, maintaining impartiality, and relying on concrete data and evidence. This is important to ensure fairness and transparency.”
Malgorzata reports that several large scale residential developments are currently underway across Chicago.
“The most ambitious residential projects underway include 400 Lake Shore Drive, The Tribune Tower complex, 111 West Illinois, The 78, and Halsted Pointe.”
The Illinois housing market continues to show steady activity.
“Median home prices in May 2026 were $333,814, up 5.6% from last year. There were 11,717 homes sold, up 4.0% versus last year.”
Inventory levels and market timing have also shifted slightly.
“There were 46,101 homes for sale, up 2.9% year over year, and the median days on the market were 50 days.”
